Appalling audio quality ruined an otherwise GREAT concert!

I love Lady As music almost as much as Darius Rucker's music. Thompson Square was great too! They were great to see and they complimented each other nicely. I thought that it was a real class thing for Lady A to bring out Darius Rucker and Thompson Square and all perform together for a while. Very nicely done! It was a great show, unfortunately the audio quality SUCKED and that ruined an otherwise great evening.

A loud concert is one thing but this was more than just a little too loud. It was over-the-top unnecessarily loud and so severely over compensated and so poorly mixed that the audio turned to mush. Almost all of the vocals were unintelligible for cryin' out tears! I spent at least half of the concert with hearing protectors in my ears -- and that actually helped the audio quality! And what's with shining all those high intensity spot lights into the eyes of the audience sitting in the dark? Do they actually think that we find that to be enjoyable? I just don't understand why such a great band like Lady A and the others will tolerate having their music sound so God-awful bad for their fans that pay good money to come to see and hear them perform. What a disappointment! It certainly does not encourage me to want to go and buy any more of their music much less attend another one of their concerts. Don't their sound "engineers" listen to what they are producing? Producing "music" that flat-lines 90% of the time is just noise that does not resemble the instruments or the voices of the artists.

I am well aware of the challenges that playing in an enclosed sports arena pose for the sound engineers running the sound board. I have attended many other events in the same arena where the sound quality has been excellent so the problem is NOT the building. I will say that the audio at one such concert by Lynyrd Skynyrd was actually worse than last nights concert though. How and why these so called engineers think that simply driving up the volume to the point of pain for the audience, even those of us sitting 3/4 of the way back from the stage, is necessary to create the best possible experience for the audience is beyond me. If they drop the sound pressure levels by 20% ~ 30% they might have a chance to mix the sound appropriately and produce an enjoyable concert where everyone would actually be able to hear and understand what was being performed. Until that happens I am afraid that I will not be attending future performances by any of them.
